One-Year Doctoral Program
for Working Individuals

The One-Year Doctoral Program is designed for Working Individuals who have demonstrated a certain level of research result, ability, etc., in their field.

In this program, students can receive a PhD in only one year instead of the standard 3-year doctoral program.

The numbers of papers and presentations required by the Department to complete the Program are as follows:

  • At least one academic paper (preferably as the first author) that has been refereed
  • At least two oral presentations (preferably refereed, made at international conferences)

In addition, the minimum numbers of credit units required to complete the Program are as follows:

  • Advanced Research 6 units
  • Advanced Seminar 2 units

There should also be 4 units from other courses, for a total of 12 units.

Day and Evening Class Program
for Doctoral Students

In this program, students can continue working at their jobs as they take day or evening classes at the Tokyo campus (in the Otsuka district of Bunkyo-ku).

It was launched in the 2009 academic year to promote the development and expansion of graduate school education for working individuals.

In some fields, students can receive instruction through a cooperative relationship with the Research Organization of Information and Systems of the Institute of Statistical Mathematics. (Link)

Entrance examinations are administered twice a year - once in August, and once in February.
